adowing620 Erica, it was great meeting you a few years back in Berlin. We enjoyed pizza at a local spot with my cousin Scott, you, and our mutual friend Saskia, it was a real treat. It’s bandcamp Friday and just wanted to say I’m happy to support and happy to see how things can always come back around full circle! Cheers to you and thank you for continuing to create!

Oh you little thing, bud of the new year, tiny and shining, making me sing. Oh you little thing, shy and unsure, tiny and hiding, living outside of gravity, on the horizon hovering. Well, I came here to feed you, humming how I need you, hoping you’ll walk by my side. Oh you little thing, bigger than time.

True Blue 03:32
Blue. Coming up roses. Blue like the sky turning from the nighttime to the day. Stormy when she needs to be. True. Coming up roses. True like a note on the wind from the throat of a bird outside singing, outside singing springtime and the seasons are changing, she’s stormy when she needs to be. We’ll take you any way you’re turning, a match made on a loom laid, equal tension. We’ve got things to teach but, honey, we will listen to you. Sissy we love you. You. Coming up madrona. You with a heart beating strong in your chest, it’s the size of a flower. Your ma’s in the garden, her belly is growing, she’s gentle and golden but she’s stormy when she needs to be. We’ll take you any song you’re singing, a match made on a loom laid, equal tension. We’ve got things to teach but, baby, we will listen to you. Sissy we love you.

Red Is 04:19
Red is deep in your mouth and your blood Red is ladybugs, stop sign, morning sky Yellow, sunshine, pee in the yellow van Lightbulbs and headlights, A yellow sign means think twice. Orange is tight stripes, the fruit, your mom’s tights Pumpkins and pumpkin pie, marbles in tiger’s eye Blue is deep water, the sky, the eye of your daughter Mattie’s hoody is blue Green is in all the trees in all the moss and the ships out at sea Lettuce and fireflies, green lullabies Brown is the flash of a hawk’s wing Your dad’s hair, darjeeling Tree bark a warm shade of dark Grey is like the winter sky, or elephant skin, mud pie River clay, dirty white is grey. Dirty white is grey. Black coffee, dark as night like cast iron or lack of light Eyeliner and cars tires and drawing ink White noise if you’re sleepy nap Big teeth: shark attack Empty paper, clouds and bones Magenta is pretty hard to explain just like acid wash, fascia or teal Aquamarine, neon green Well, purple pink and white are your favorite colors in a contest they’d win the best prize for being colors Little babies you are my favorite in a contest you would win the best prize for being babies.

Magnolia 04:47
Magnolia, blossom of the springtime Magnolia, you’ve always been a friend of mine Metta Fawn born at dawn into family like a song, into melodies way up in the trees, pollen for the bumblebees Magnolia, blossom of the springtime Magnolia, you’ve always been a love of mine Little thing born in spring when at night the coyotes sing, “In this life, my dear, you’ll be anything, we’ll be here for your wildest dreams. Come what may, may come between us because needs come in all different seasons and when the dark night leaves you heaving, well, you yell into the sky like you mean it!” Don’t mind time, little friend of mine, because love comes in all shapes and size and love, my love, love’s to survive whether you watch or you close your eyes. I said, “Home is where i want to be but i guess I’m already there. Home she lifted up her wings I guess that this must be the place. And I can’t tell one from another, did i find you or you found me? There was a time before you were born so cover up and say goodnight.” Say goodnight. Metta, you’ve got light in your eyes Metta, you’ve got plenty of time

How much can you love something that you don’t see? If you wish to the whales they’ll come to your dreams and the dreams of your friends. They need us and we need them. We need them. How much can we love something that we don’t touch? It’s so much! With a creature so wild and adventurous, that’s the wonder of love at a distance because... We build our houses on the shoreside and the orca’s home is the salmon and the high-tide, the Salish Sea, the oceans we’ve been living side by side, we’ve been swimming throughout time together. How much can we love something that we don’t hear? Deep under water the whales are clear when they talk to their families, they whistle their songs and we’re singing along. Oooooh We build our houses on the shoreside while the orca’s home is the salmon and the high-tide, the salish sea, the oceans we’ve been living side by side, we’ve been swimming throughout time now we’ll keep them in our minds, when we act they’re in our minds and in our hearts. How much can we love something that we don’t see? If you wish to the whales they’ll come to your dreams and the dreams of your friends they need us and we need them. We need them.

A Year 03:56
You’ve got a smile and it’s worldwide, I wrote you a postcard in July but you never got it cuz sometimes the weight of my love’s on the inside and I never made it to the post office. I’ve got your laugh stuck in my mind, it’s better than a song, and I cried at your Great Grandma’s service and I tried to chase you and catch you and we were feeling fine being funny in our fancy clothes. What’s a year to me with all the million things I’ve seen? But a year to you is so long and I miss you! What’s a year to me when I’m everywhere in between? But you’ve grown so much and you’ve learned so much stuff and I miss you. I miss you. There are clouds in the sky above our faces. It doesn’t matter we’re on Earth in different places because the same the wind, the same rain, crossing oceans, different names; the same moon in the sky, the same stars at different times, and you are far away from me but in my heart you’re close as close can be. Time is a constant and we’ll try to chase it and catch it and sometimes when we get together we’ll go wild, we’ll smash all the clocks and we’ll even lose ourselves, find forever in an afternoon. What’s a year to me with all the million things I’ve seen? But a year to you’s so long and I miss you! What’s a year to me when I’m everywhere in between? But you’ve grown so much and you’ve learned so much stuff and I miss you. What’s a year to me, the grown up stuff I’m balancing and you’ve family mine so I’m yours for all time and I miss you. I miss you.

It’s a very special feeling, put the baby on the ceiling, with the sky so high it’s hard to just let go. We don’t know all the width of what’s in store or the length of days and nights and we want more. We want more. In an afternoon we’re waiting, but the moonrise came impatient, with the sky so high so just let go. Oh let go, little baby just let go, if you’re ready, when you’re ready, let us know. You let us know. Push the moon aside little sunrise, we’re waiting here on this side to meet you in the summertime. Let go and you’ll be fine. Let go. Now we wonder what you’re thinking, let the stars above just sink in, it’s a different kind of speaking than we’ve known. Here we go, here we go, do you hear we? Kendra go. On the winds of time this ship is sure for shore. We love you more.

Something came up better in the morning. Shining brighter than the break of day. Something shining hard just like good news on the horizon. Goldie Casio is her name. Little baby born into the season of sparkles in the window from the rain. Born before the full moon on a night with Virgo rising: Goldie Casio she came. Well, there were seven sisters wishing to the night sky, hoping it’d be obvious and plain, just an easy answer nothing wild, nothing surprising, “Goldie Casio,” we sang, “Welcome to Earth.” She was strong and steady in her little heartbeat. With skin so soft we’ll never be the same. Her destiny all wound up in a tiny body breathing. Goldie Casio she came. Welcome to Earth.

We’ve been here before, in the grip of the future, unwinding our golden thread, again and again. It’s the three of us dancing to Whitney in a small town that feels like a city while bats touch their wings to the sky and it smarts just to know we’re alive. We laugh and we cry. At home on the water with the trout and the otter, doubling back with the tide again and again. Our lines disappear into mystery, laughing “Later the rest will be history.” While bats touch their wings to the water and dart quick to the dark of the night. The night is alive. We’ll wrap our catch up in words and warm hands. Unfolding winds and the heat on flat lands. "Welcome to earth" we might sing to the sea. Fishing on a golden thread. Wishing you into being.

July Bird 03:24
Hey little bird, you flew through the window right into the front room and we knew it was you by the way that you flew. Look for your dad now with his thumb in the dirt, your mom’s getting strong now, it’s July 31, and I can’t keep my mouth shut about you. My lips are loose no matter what I do. Singing about you. Singing songs about you. Yea but one friend told a lady on the plane and one friend told a cab driver another said same grade, we all love an addition to our family parade and every little whisper is a song sung just the same for you. … like the waters are warm now, there’s smoke in the sky, what use has a spring kid for a summer lullaby? Well every story line is wide and new and the seasons will conspire no matter what story you choose. There’s no rush to choose. Yea well one friend told a lady on the plane. One friend told a cab driver another said same grade. We all love an addition to our family parade and every little whisper is a song sung just the same for you, little bird. You flew through the window, right out of the front room and we knew it was you by the way that you flew. By the way that you flew. On your own way you flew.

Tadpoles 01:48
Hey little Pollywog, Does your froggy mind remind you that once you were small with no legs but a tail behind you. Yeah, you were so small we all had to squint twice to find you before you grew tall. We said, "Those shiny twins will blind you" and you were sleeping. You were always sleeping. Hey baby dear, I heard your pretty mama sing to you. Oh baby dear, I heard your pretty papa sing to you. Oh baby dear, I heard you hear the forest sing to you. Oh baby dear I know the future’s got a thing for you. When you were sleeping and I was singing, "Look at your brown eyes, there’s magic your little heads, you’ve got worlds inside you just haven’t learned to tell them yet but you will some day and the songs you’ll write will blow all this away." And I said, “Hey, what if we get trapped?!” you say, “We’ll never be trapped because there’s still a door or we could open a curtain and go out the window!” Look at your brown eyes, there’s magic your little heads, you’ve got worlds inside you just haven’t learned to tell them yet but you will some day and the songs you’ll write will blow all this away.

about

We’re so caught up in this moment with all the real pressures and challenges that mark our lives right now; this all-consuming moment. With these songs, I was thinking about what world we’re welcoming the next generation into and, similarly, how we approach our own futures and histories as we grow. These songs are about being alive, whether we’re new to it or have been around awhile.

There are lot of people I love in here, in the song contents and lending their voices or their perspective on how a song should shift or the sound should change. I really appreciate the support, it made me feel connected and like I had a path to walk during a particularly wild time in my life. You know who you are - thank you <3

Explicit thanks to Kay & Andrew at Specialist Subject Records!
It's was joy to work with you, thank you for having me.
